There are so many reasons why I love and am so proud of my parents. Sure they made the decision to have me and my sister and did a pretty good job raising us. Dad was in the military and worked really hard to make sure we had as "normal" lives as possible moving around so much. Mom was always the glue that would hold us together and make sure we were headed down the right path. This past month they have sacrificed so much of themselves to help others that I am beyond proud. They both have always been very involved in the church and various community activities and we were a part of it as well.
My grandmother had knee replacement surgery in the beginning of August. My mother flew out to be with her for a couple of weeks to help with her initial recovery. She diligently worked hard driving GM to all of her appointments, cooked and cleaned, helped change dressings and never complained about it all.
My Dad flew out two weeks later to be the relief for my Mom. They had a couple of days together in Oklahoma and then Mom came home. Dad is still there taking care of GM, who is doing well, but it is a slow recovery process, so he has been working a lot around the house and cooking and cleaning for her.
My Mom had been home a day when she got called from the Red Cross that she needed to be ready to open a shelter because Hanna was coming. She had to unpack, get all of the house secured (a job my Dad usually does) and then go get a shelter open. Luckily the storm wasn't too bad and they had few evacuees, but they still had to be open.
Dad is coming home tomorrow and I am excited that they will be able to be home together after helping out others and being apart for over a month. With the hurricane hitting the Gulf again, Mom may get called for disaster duty as well.
Thanks Mom & Dad for being perfect role models for us on how we need to take care of each other no matter what the personal sacrifice. I hope that we can continue to be as willing to serve as you continue to be.

Wow, that's wonderful. It's so great to hear of people like your parents. I hope they are getting a much needed rest.
What a wonderful tribute to your parents! I am sure that they are as proud of you and the way you give so much of yourself to others. It looks like they "led by example" to their children!
Love you and miss you bunches!
