Vacation

I think the theme of our vacation this year was transportation. We first headed to Richmond and went to their Aircraft museum where Bill and I tried to see what it would be like to fly a plane. We determined that they must have been very small people because we both had a time getting in and out of this plane and I am not sharing those pictures my FIL took!
Then we were off to Charolletesville for some canoeing. This was the part of the trip I was dreading because I have never been on a trip for this long without a guide. Bill and I were the only other human beings that we saw on the entire journey. The water levels were very low due to the drought, so there were several spots that we had to get out and walk, but we survived minus a few cuts and bruises from our one and only tip over. My only regret was that I wasn't able to take my camera and get pictures--I was too afraid it would get wet and I was right. We saw some beautiful scenery of God's magnificent creations and lots birds, turtles, and even cows in the water!! If you are ever in the area stop by and visit these folks--they were the nicest people to some rookies!!

That same day we went to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home. This has little to do with transportation but we had to drive up a big hill to get there. It was a gorgeous day and I could have spent more time up there in the fresh mountain air taking in the gardens and scenery.
What trip without Bill would not be complete without some trains. Richmond is famous for having a triple crossing where 3 train tracks on 3 different levels cross at the same point. One of the tour guides said there has only been 2 times that 3 have been there at once. We have stopped by there many times in our travels and have only seen one at a time. They have a pretty cool downtown even for non-railroad buffs.
